Workshop on Social Innovation on 10 October 2017 in Brussels, Belgium

The SEMPRE project has coorganised a workshop entitled “Building capacities for bottom-up social innovation in regional development” on Tuesday, 10 October 2017 in hte "capital of the EU" Brussels. The event took place during the European Week of Regions and Cities.

Social innovation is a source of growth and jobs in European regions, and has conquered policy and strategy papers as a buzzword. Often enough though, the potential and dynamics of social innovation initiatives evaporate. Regional efforts to strengthen the social innovation sector remain rootless and without a tangible frame if they are not aligned with the actual needs of the users.

But what happens when social innovation meets practice, when social innovation is framed by concrete project work?

This workshop has offered the opportunity to explore one specific aspect of social innovation introduced by SEMPRE. It was organised by the Diakonie Schleswig-Holstein together with Diakonie Deutschland and the Brussels representation of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD).

SEMPRE in Liepa, Latvia – coming together and finding new ways for social improvement through empowerment

When the SEMPRE project team of Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences was asked to join the opening of the NGO “Save the children” in Liepa, Latvia, a small rural community, they were surprised to meet so many children and families enjoying the day. It was the starting point for regular meetings with mothers, youth being outside the labour market, education and training.
